It is always an honor for me to know that a family has many choices and invited me to be a part of their family during this precious time – a baby being born! Especially when they take the time to travel from Ellicott City to my studio. Babies are miracles and this is such a short period of when they are tiny, new and so beautifully fresh. I’m incredibly honored to know that the images created will be enjoyed for generations.

The K family welcomed a second baby boy into their family

I’m a mom to two young boys too… I get it! I used to think that 1 + 1 = 2, but that is not the case! My math teachers along the way lied to me… 1 child + 1 child = ???? (something larger than 2!!) Yes, children are an amazing blessing, but I also certainly understand that being a parent is the toughest and most rewarding opportunity of a lifetime. So, when you come for your session – don’t ever apologize for kids running around, babies peeing on me or for you falling asleep in my comfy chairs – its OK, you deserve a rest.

The tiny newborn details

I love capturing all the details of this little guy, these are the things that I miss most about my own boys. The tiny lips, eye lashes, fingernails, toes… I could go on forever. Mom and Dad loved these little detail photos, they are always a favorite with my families.

Sibling Photos – first time Big Brother!

This little guy has a big brother who is so in love with him and very proud of his little brother. I know that older siblings can have a little bit of a rough go when a new person enters the family. I always strive to make them feel comfortable and special by taking a few photos of just them. This big brother loved it!!

Family Photos at a Newborn Session

It is vital for me to be able to capture the whole family together, no ever regrets having their family photo taken, eevverrr! Here is a list of excuses I’ve heard and my come back to all of them:

I’m tired. – Don’t worry, you can sit and it will only take about 10 minutes.
I didn’t do my hair or make-up. – That is OK, I can retouch a few things for you and I think you look beautiful just the way you are.
Baby peed / spit-up / poop / snotted on me. – No worries, I have some simple tank tops and shirts you can use in my studio.
My older kids won’t behave for a photos. – Don’t worry about them, I will tickle, play and have fun with them and we will create a beautiful photo for you.
My husband doesn’t want to be in the photos. – I can photoshop a photo of Brad Pitt into your family photo and then he will be sorry! Just kidding, we always make it work. 😉

I could go on and on… but capturing photos of you and your whole family during this time is just an important as any photos of your baby! Mom and dad enjoyed this session and we all had a great time! Especially since baby J only pooped on daddy – I didn’t get hit this time, one of the very few times.

Custom Newborn Portraits

When the K family arrived, I already had laid out colors and items I thought they would like. Mom and I picked out pieces and colors they felt matched their style. They loved neutrals and beautiful blue colors so we can up with this color scheme… loooveee it!

Perspective… a little newborn loved in a big way

Dad is a tall gentleman. Mom is a sweet petite lady. They made a beautiful baby boy and I love to show the perspective and love they have for one another. One way to artistically declare this love is showing how tightly they hold him close – both figuratively and emotionally. These are some of my all time favorite photos – baby held in the arms of his parents – nothing is more tender and loving than that!
